Glacial blue ice from the Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) Ice Sheet will be transformed into a reverential sculpture, a reliquary, traveling the world as a frozen ambassador, representing the interests of the Arctic environment and the Indigenous peoples who reside there.

Local Voices Local Faces

In preparation for the ‘Sermersuaq: The Last Ice Project’, team members Charles Monroe-Kane and Emile Holba took part in a 2025 artist residency called ‘Climate Narratives.’ The residency took place in ILLU Art & Science Hub in Illulissat, Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland).

Here are just some of the Greenlandic Inuit people we met who are working with us on the project. They are informing our project ideas, assisting in logistics, and educating us about the Greenlandic Inuit community. They will host the ice when the international touring exhibit returns home at the Icefjord Center in Illulissat. Through their stories and portraits learn more about the unique challenges their community faces.
